Previous to the game, Griffith Gymnasium was decorated with balloons and other assortments in honor of the Senior Toppers Bell Larribas, Elena Abeyta, Casey Trujillo, Sienna Ahlers, Ashley Logan and Shannon Irwin for their time as Toppers in a pre-game ceremony. The Espanola seniors were honored for their time, and the Sundevils congratulated the Topper Seniors for their time playing.The atmosphere was easy and friendly compared to the Boys game versus Espanola. Sadly the Girls did not go out with a bang as they would have hoped. Previous to the Varsitys clash, the C-team and JV both ended with a victory over Espanola. JV won after a first half deficit of nine and ended the game 56-49.The first quarter of the Varsity game was particularly good with both teams playing point for point basketball, and the quarter ended with the girls tied 11-11. Even with the Toppers strong efforts to hold back Espanolas high scoring play style, they could not keep up and the first half ended 21-30 with a Sundevil lead.Unfortunately the Girls did not ha stanley us ve the same level of suppo stanley cup rt from the stands as the Boys Rivalry clash. The loudest thing in the gym was the squeaking of the sneakers, and this may have played into the Toppers down trod in the second half.
