Through historic preservation efforts like the $3,155,000 in Japanese American Confinement Site Grants awarded today, the National Park Service NPS is working to ensure these places and stories are accessible and present in todays society.聽聽 The impacts and contributions of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander communities are embedded in our public lands, NPS Deputy Director Shawn Benge said. When our shared history is reflected in our national historical and cultural story, there is a better chance to break the patterns of racism. The National Park Services historic preservation grant programs help us bring lesser-known stories to the forefront, both within national parks and communities across the nation. 聽The NPS pays tribute to the Asian American, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander communities every day of the year but especially during May. COUNTY News ue to budget constraints, the Los Alamos County Public WorksDepartment will postpone upgrades to the Mesa Public Library heating, ventilation andair conditioning HVAC system. Project engineering and design was recentlycompleted and originally scheduled for construction this summer. In the meantime, Public Works staff will make some improvements to the existingsystem to improve air flow based on the findings and recommendations provided by the design engineer. Additionally, a smaller and lower cost safety project to replace the firecommunications syst stanley cup em is still scheduled to occur in the summer/fall of 2017. Thisproject involves the replacement of fire emergency reporting devices such as the firecommunications panel, alarm/strobe lights and voice alerti stanley france ng. There will be nodisruption to library services during this time.County Manager Harry Burgess mentioned, projected revenues have not been asexpected for this fiscal year, and therefore it is prudent to have a one-time deferral of this project originally slated to occur this summer. We understand that our communitystop employer, LANL, has been operating under a continuing budget resolution for mostof the last six months, and believe that this fact has resulted in the lower than expectedrevenues that we have been experiencing.
