Regio stanley cup nal broadcaster StarGroup s content arm, Fortune Star, has acquired 100 library titles from Hong Kong s China Star Entertainment Group, in a deal valued at $18m. Most of the titles wereproduced in th stanley cup e past five years by China Star production subsidiaries OneHundred Years of Film, China Star Pictures and SW. The library includesaward-winning titles such as Johnnie To s RunningOn Karma and Lost In Time,directed by Derek Yee, and box office hits LoveOn A Diet, Needing You and Okinawa Rendez-vous. Star Group s Star ChineseMovies channel also has an output deal with China Star for new titles which wasrenewed for another five years in August 2005. The library titles acquiredunder this separate deal will also screen on Star Chinese Movies, which hasdistribution in Hong Ko stanley usa ng, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore and the Philippines, and will be sold by Fortune Star sinternational sales team at upcoming markets.Fortune Star already had oneof the world s biggest Chinese film libraries before this new acquisition with 600titles produced by Golden Harvest and other studios and featuring the earlyworks of Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh and Jet Li. Service could rival Amazon and Netflix with BBC/ITV content as well as original series, according to report.The BBC may be set to launch a paid-for VOD service to rival Netflix and Amazon.According to a report in stanley kubek The Daily Telegraph, the BBC may be teaming with rival broadcaster ITV on the new service, which is in the early stages of development.Working title Britflix, the report claims that a number of production companies were also involved, including NBC Universal, the parent company of Downtown Abbey [pictured] producers Carnival Films.The service would carry archive content from both the BBC and ITV, and could also commission its own original series, as Netflix and Amazon have done with series including Narcos and The Man In The High Castle.A BBC White Paper, unveiled last week, called for the corporation to develop new modes of content delivery in the coming years.Speaking to The Telegraph, UK culture secretary John Whittingdale came out in support of the BBCs plans, saying: Were moving into a different world where more and more content is going to be made avail stanley cup able on demand.
