As a Turkish woman of 43, I've found myself in many roles, but none as liberating and empowering as dancing burlesque. I remember it as clear as yesterday, the mix of anticipation and fear knotting in my belly as the curtain was about to rise on my first solo performance. The beats began, low and sensual, threatening to overwhelm me and then...I began to move. Each sway was a declaration, each twirl a victory. The stage was my world, the spotlight, my sun. Within it, I felt invincible, a complete master, wielding control with the finesse of a puppeteer.
Burlesque, you see, is a dance of power. It's about owning your body, your sensuality, comfortably straddling that line between being utterly in control and letting loose. The intoxication of the gaze, the narrative of skin unveiled, it's all a part of the magical choreography that is burlesque. As I pirouetted and posed, the cheers and hollers of the audience were a backdrop to my personal experience of transformation. рџљ»
Confidence is a must in this line of work. And not the blatantly obvious kind, plastered on like a mask. No. It's a subtly simmering one, rising from within, a steaming pot of self-assuredness and bravery. 🥵 When I danced that night, I realized this wasn't just flamboyant entertainment. Burlesque dancing was about confidence in one’s self, a revolutionary act of self-assertion.
So, here I am, a Turkish burlesque performer living her best life. Click-worthy content, some may say. рџ‰бЅ 9 But to me, my reality on and off-stage is far more than that. This is my truth, this is my tale and in telling it, I’m celebrating the art of living with courage and control.
