CHERRYFIELD 鈥?Iona M. Beal Polk, 86, went home to be with the Lord Friday, Nov. 25, 2011. She was born July 7, 1925, in Jonesport, the daughter of James W. and Ora E. Alley Beal.Iona married Carleton M. Polk in September 1942. They owned and operated Polks General Store, Indian River, for 20 years, and then she converted it into a clothing store for several more years. She was a bookkeeper for Beals-Jonesport Co-op, served as a member of Addison School Board, and was a Sunday school teacher for many years at Jonesport Wesleyan Church, where she was a member for more than 60 years. When Iona moved to Cherryfield she began volunteering at Cherryfield Christian School, and later became a member of First Baptist Church of Cherryfie stanley website ld.
